City Point Through the Centuries

Map features are based on an 1837 survey for the City Point Railroad (see historic map and caption below). The surveyor may have skewed the orientation of several interior parcels which appear out of alignment with the street grid. Areas along the waterfront, where the railroad was to be built, seem more accurately drawn. Note the small structures along the upper southwest edge of the study area. This is where a large structural feature was found in one of the test trenches.
