Fall 2009 Call for Project Proposals
| September 18, 2009The Committee on Sustainability (COS) administers the Student Green Fee as part of its charge under the Sustainability Policy of the College announced by President Reveley. Consistent with guidelines set by the Board of Visitors in their approval of the Green Fee, funds are allocated annually (1) to build a Green Endowment and (2) to support grants and projects for students, faculty and staff, including four (4) summer research internships open to students in Arts and Sciences and in the four graduate and professional Schools of Business, Education, Law and Marine Science.
Fall 2009 Grants and Project Proposals
COS seeks proposals from all faculty, students and staff that will advance the sustainability goals and policies of the College. Proposals may come from individuals or groups, and may include (1) requests for support for facilities enhancements that advance sustainability goals, increase energy efficiency, reduce the carbon footprint or improve land use and stormwater management practices, and waste management; and (2) research projects and activities that offer opportunities to improve sustainability through new solutions, new technologies or new approaches affecting behavioral changes that enhance resource conservation and address any of those sustainability issues detailed in the College Sustainability Policy. We encourage collaborative and interdisciplinary proposals from all segments of the College Community.
All proposals should include a completed cover sheet (.doc) and be no longer than 2 pages, in length. The text of the proposal should include a brief statement of the purpose and rationale of the project or grant, its relationship to the College sustainability goals, methodologies where applicable, and a statement of expected benefits. In the case of facilities proposals, a brief analysis of expected resource and energy savings, and a projection of potential payback as cost savings must be included. Undergraduate student proposals should identify a faculty or staff mentor for the project. Where College credit would be given, the student applicant, whether graduate or undergraduate, must have a faculty mentor.
