How can you recycle?
The College’s recycling program is one of the most successful in the state! Through additional funding and the support of the Committee on Sustainability, Residence Life and Facilities Management, William & Mary began enhanced recycling services in August 2010. This includes office and selected common area pickup, expanded exterior pickup, and common area pickup in residence halls. The outdoor and some of the indoor recycling bins are serviced using an electric truck!
- Academic/Administrative Buildings: dark blue containers in offices are emptied biweekly; these may include mixed recyclables (see the list of acceptable recycling content below). Containers near copiers, interior entrances to buildings and in kitchen areas will be more exclusive and labeled appropriately.
- Residence Halls: each room/apartment has a blue recycling bin—simply empty your recycling into the large blue recycling dumpsters outside.
Large blue recycling containers are located next to most existing solid waste containers in high traffic areas and will be exclusively for cans and plastic or glass bottles—paper will not be accepted to minimize contamination.
Recycle mixed material, including large cardboard boxes that have been broken down; see a map (pdf) of recycling dumpsters on campus.
