Faculty: Go Green in the W&M Classroom

W&M Sustainability would like to encourage faculty to include information on sustainability in their course syllabi.

Please consider going green in the classroom by giving your students specific sustainability tips that relate to coursework. Examples of language you can pick and choose from is provided below-or invent your own!

Sustainability at W&M
  • I support sustainability initiatives on campus.
  • I take seriously the university's sustainability goals.
  • I will make several efforts to reduce paper use throughout the course.
  • To reduce paper use, your course syllabus (or readings, assignments, discussion topics, problem sets, etc) will be provided online. Please try to save paper by reading these documents online, when possible.
  • If you must print out documents, please consider printing double-sided and/or with two sheets per page.
  • I will accept all (or specific) assignments turned in electronically.
  • I will grade all (or specific) assignments electronically, rather than printing them out.
  • If, as the semester proceeds, you have suggestions regarding how to make the course more sustainable, please let me know.
  • I look forward to working with you to achieve a more sustainable course.
  • For more information, please see the Sustainability at W&M website: www.wm.edu/sustainability

Sustainability at W&M

  • I support sustainability initiatives on the W&M campus. To reduce paper use, most of your course documents (including the syllabus, readings, and most assignments) will be provided on the course Blackboard page. Please try to save paper by reading these documents online, if possible. If you must print out documents, please consider printing double-sided and with two pages per sheet of paper. I also encourage you to turn in your assignments electronically. For more information, please see the Sustainability at W&M website: www.wm.edu/sustainability

  • I take seriously the university's sustainability goals. Toward this end, I will make several efforts to reduce paper use throughout the course. In addition to promoting sustainability, it is my hope that these efforts will also improve the quality of the course in other ways. If, as the semester proceeds, you have suggestions regarding how to make the course more sustainable, please let me know. I look forward to working with you to achieve a more sustainable course.
