Find Sustainability Funding

There are many funding opportunities for sustainabiltiy projects, research, initiatives, programs, and ways to expand our horizons at William & Mary. Many projects featuring the intersectionality of environmental, economic, social and well-being factors can find funding through the following sources and for additional information email us at sustain@wm.edu

Green Fee

The Committee on Sustainability accepts proposals from students, faculty and staff each semester on projects that further the sustainability goals of William & Mary. Projects range greatly in size and subject, featuring research, community events and outreach, resource saving initiatives, wellness programs and much more.

Green to Gold Fund

The Green to Gold Fund is a green revolving fund established to reduce William and Mary's impact on the environment and to improve efficiency in ways that create measurable returns on investment, while also providing educational opportunities for students. A loan is awarded to departments for large scale sustainability initiatives, providing the initial investment needed for long term environmental and economic benefits. Student participation is encouraged.

Summer Sustainability Research Grants

Applications for summer sustainability research are accepted each spring from all continuing students of the College: undergraduate, graduate and professional students. Three awards will be made in amounts up to $5,000 each ($3,500 stipend and up to $1500 in research support), plus housing on the Williamsburg campus. An additional $250 will be awarded to the student's advisor in recognition of the advisor's contributions.

Sustainability Conference Funding

The Committee on Sustainability accepts applications on a continuing basis for funding support to conferences. COS has designated $1250 per year from the Green Fee to support student attendance at sustainability-related conferences, applications must be received at least two weeks prior to the conference.

Community Engagement Grants

The Office of Community Engagement awards Community Engagement Grants (CEGs) each year to support students' involvement in community engagement during the academic year and over the summer and winter breaks.  The purpose of CEGs is to develop students as active citizens and to support communities in achieving their own goals.

Tribefunding

William & Mary's approach to crowdfunding! Qualifying projects should have the potential to transform William & Mary and have broader impact on local and/or global communities. Preference will be given to projects that incorporate collaboration between students and faculty/staff.
