Sarah Hanke, Sustainability Fellow

Sarah Hanke (MPP '10) is the College of Willaim and Mary's Sustainability Fellow for 2010-2012. Working under the direction of Lynda Butler of the Law School and Dennis Taylor, professor emeritus of VIMS, co-chairs of the Committee on Sustainability (COS), Hanke is responsible for coordinating COS's sustainability initiatives and helping to promote the College's sustainability goals. Some of her responsibilities include researching fundraising opportunities, encouraging and coordinating campus sustainability activities by faculty, staff, and students, preparing press releases regarding sustainability actions on campus, and maintaining the COS website.
As a graduate student, Hanke served as both a student representative to the COS Steering Committee and the co-chair of the Operations Subcommittee. While in the Thomas Jefferson Program in Public Policy, Hanke focused on environmental policy and completed projects on offshore oil drilling, food sustainability, and an independent study about the loss of farmland to development. She graduated with her BA in Spanish from the University of Michigan in 2007 and then moved to Virginia with her husband, who is employed by NASA Langley Research Center.
