Programs and Education Subcommittee

The Programs and Education Subcommittee (PEDS) is the primary educational arm of COS. PEDS is responsible for evaluating and making recommendations to the Steering Committee on integrating academic programs, student body, and staff into the effort to promote a sustainable campus.  PEDS is co-chaired by Professor Harmony Dalgleish and student [[e|jsjenet, Jack Jenet '19]].

The Fall Event Working Group is led by students [[e|zhuang02, Zhuowei Huang '18]] and [[e|moramirez, Manuel Ramirez '18]]

The fall sustainability event has historically been a sustainability summit or conference, but this year we will be mixing things up with a hackathon style event in partnership with the Green to Gold Fund Committee. This event will involve students in a fun, competetive and creative process that will result in prize winning ideas for how the W&M campus can reduce greenhouse gas emissions or resource use in cost-saving ways.

The Earth Week Working Group is led by students [[e|ajdavidson, Abby Davidson '19]] and [[e|jmontgomery, Julia Montgomery '20]]

Earth Week takes place in April the week prior or the week of Earth Day and is 7 whirl wind days of activities, speakers, movies, events, games, exhibits, and more, all capped off with an Earth Day Festival that Saturday! The planning of this event starts in the fall and provides the opportunity for collaboration with many student, faculty, and staff, as well as community members.

The Tribe Truck Farm Working Group is led by students [[e|lmarrs, Livia Marrs '18]] and [[e|mhcantwell, Meagan Cantwell '18]]

You might have seen this truck parked in various locations on campus! The Tribe Truck Farm is a biodiesel truck with a garden in the bed that was funded by both a kickstarter campaign and Green Fees in 2013. This outreach group visits local schools, daycares, and more, spreading the word about gardening, biodiesel, and other sustainability topics with a set of interactive lessons.

The Welcome Working Group is led by [[e|mnbelesimo, Maddie Belesimo '20]] and [[e|ssdelzell, Sophia Delzell '17]]

This fun group gets the opportunity to welcome new and returning studens to campus through outreach and activities, many in parternship with the Office of First Year Experience. We design and distribute reusable bags to all first year and transfer students as well as plan Meet the Greens, a lively festival where the W&M community showcases the many sustainability initiatives and opportunities available both on and off campus!
