The Thermo Scientific Pierce Scholarship Program awards $5,000-$10,000 in scholarship funding for undergraduate and graduate science students. This scholarship was created to help provide educational opportunities for the future generation of scientists.

Applicants must be US citizens or students with an appropriate visa to study in the US, as well as graduate or undergraduate students at an accredited school for the Fall 2013 semester. In addition, applicants must have declared a major in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related life science field. Finally, all applicants must possess a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 school; this requirement varies depending on the applicant's year in school. See the website for more details.
The scholarship must be used during the Fall semester of the 2013-2014 school year. All unused funds are subject to be returned to the scholarship program.
Funding & Benefits
Two $10,000 and four $5,000 scholarships will be awarded. The award will be made directly payable to the winner's school. In addition, Thermo Scientific will publish the winners' names and brief bios on their website.
The core scholarship application is online at the link above. In addition to the online application, all applicants must submit their unofficial college transcripts (additionally, graduate applicants will submit their graduate school transcripts; freshman applicants will submit their high school transcripts). Resumes, references, and examples of scientific projects (posters, images, etc.) are accepted, but not required. Within the online application, there is a required 1000 character essay asking applicants to explain the role science plays in their lives.
