Confucius Institute Scholarship

The WMCI serves as an on-campus and community liaison for administering Confucius Institute scholarship sponsored by Hanban to those interested in studying in China.

Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Materials

 Applicants are required to submit the following documents:

  • College Transcript
  • Photocopy of HSK and HSKK Result Reports

Applicants should achieve at least a score of 180 on HSK level 3 (or a score of 120 on HSK level 2 for the single semester scholarship) and a minimum score of 60 on the primary level HSKK (oral) exam (or a score of 40 for the single semester scholarship).

  • One-page Personal Statement

Explain your Chinese language learning background, study plan, and goals in China. Also specify two choices of universities to which you will apply, and indicate your HSK and HSKK scores. The statement can be written in English.

  • Recommendation Letters

Applicants are required to submit two reference letters (in Chinese or English).

  • Photocopy of Certificate of Chinese Speech Contest (if applicable)

After selection, applicants will be required to submit other documents, including:

  • Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form

WMCI will assist you to apply through an online system (http://cis.chinese.cn/) and print the application form.

  • Photocopy of Passport Photo Page
  • Personal Statement in Chinese, no less than 800 words.
  • Photocopy of Diploma

Applicants shall submit notarized highest education diplomas attained or proof of study.

Scholarship Awards

Scholarship winners are exempt from registration fees, tuition, fees for basic learning
materials, accommodation fees on campus, and are provided with a one-off resettlement
subsidy, monthly living allowance, outpatient medical service and comprehensive
insurance for foreign students studying in China. Monthly living allowances are provided
at the following rates (CNY Yuan per month):
           a. 1,400 CNY for One-Academic-Year Students and One-Semester Students.
           b. 1,700 CNY for Master’s Degree Students.
The one-off resettlement subsidy is 1,500 CNY for students who will study in China for
one academic year or more; 1,000 CNY will be provided for all students who study in
China for one semester; the one-off resettlement subsidy will not be provided for those
who have studied in China for more than half a year before being enrolled.
