Brick Dedication

The engraved brick program is a fairly new tradition, beginning in 1997 upon completion of the Alumni House expansion. The dedication of engraved bricks for Lynn Briley, Karen Ely and Janet Brown Strafer was held during Homecoming weekend on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 11:00 am until noon at Clarke Plaza and Ukrop Terrace of the Alumni House.

The “Welcome” was provided by Jacquelyn McLendon, Chair of the Commemoration Steering Committee, with “Remarks” by President Taylor Reveley and the “Unveiling” by Provost Michael Halleran. The three bricks bear the women’s names, graduating class and their chosen inscriptions. A fourth brick bears the title “50th Anniversary – African Americans in Residence – 1967-2017. The three honorees were also presented with framed photos of their bricks.
