Facilities Inspector Timeline and Position Description

Timeline
March 3 Applications available at Residence Life Office (Campus Center 212) or on web site.
March 16 Applications reviewed and candidates interviewed until all positions are filled.
April 1 All final job offers/notification
April 4 4pm at Campus Center 212, brief orientation meeting
May 12-13 Inspectors begin work and moves into summer housing
August 15 Inspectors move into their Fall Assignments
August 21 Inspectors end work (there will be the opportunity to continue working the following week)

Facilities Inspector Requirements
  • Must be a William and Mary student. Facilities Inspectors may take summer classes, however, preference
    will be given to those students not taking classes during the summer session.
  • Must have to work on your feet for long periods of time, carry and handle an 8' step ladder. Candidates should be able to finish tasks independently, and be skilled in Word and Excel.
  • Work a minimum of 30 hours per week.
  • Must be able to commit to work hours ranging from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mon. through Fri.
  • Activities and commitments outside working hours must not interfere with inspector's ability to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Employment begins May 12, and ends August 21.

Facilities Inspectors are employees and representatives of Facilities Management, the Office of Residence Life and the College of William and Mary. As such, they are expected to conduct themselves in a mature and responsible manner, abiding by all policies, rules and regulations set forth by the College and the Office of Residence Life.

Facilities Inspector Position Description
  • Facilities inspectors will work under the supervision of Facilities Management to do the following:
    • Assist in maintaining, replacing and inventorying fire safety equipment in the Residence Halls.
    • Assist in escorting fire safety vendors through the halls during the course of inspections, maintenance and renovations of building fire safety equipment.
    • Assist in maintaining or developing proper maintenance, inspection, alarm information and safety plans as necessary to meet College, state and federal code guidelines.
    • Assist at the Facilities Warehouse with inventory, ordering, delivery and checkout of equipment and supplies.
    • Assist Facilities Management with receiving college shipments and distributing parcels across campus.
    • Assist Facilities Management in other projects and tasks that may need to be completed in the Residence Halls.
