$200 Non-Refundable

All currently enrolled full-time undergraduate students are eligible to pay a $200 Non-refundable Room Reservation Deposit in order to participate in the Room Selection Process for the 2008-2009 academic year. The $200 deposit serves as a pre-payment on the fall housing rent, and constitutes a desire and commitment to live in college housing for the upcoming academic year.

  • All students interested in participating in any part of the housing selection process (including those in Special Interest and Greek housing) must pay the non-refundable deposit.
  • Those students on a full scholarship must come to Residence Life by 5:00pm on February 22, 2008 in order for a room deposit to be credited in their name.
  • The deposit may be paid at the Cashier's Window in Blow Memorial Hall or mail the payment to
             The Bursar's Office
             P.O. Box 8795
             Williamsburg, VA 23187
    The check or money order is made payable to The College of William and Mary and should include the student's name and student I.D. number in the memo section of the check.
There are only a few circumstances under which a student can request a refund of the $200 deposit. If a student:
  1. gets married (a copy of the marriage certificate is required for verification);
  2. is accepted in a William and Mary approved Study Abroad program;
  3. is academically dismissed;
  4. is required to withdraw due to medical reasons;
  5. transfers to another institution (copy of acceptance letter to the institution is required for verification);
  6. or is "bumped" from the Room Selection Process (see sections on Voluntary and Involuntary Bump for details).

Students who meet one of the above criteria must submit written verification (i.e. acceptance letter, marriage certificate, etc.) to the Residence Life Office. Written verification from the student must be received on or before August 27, 2008 (the first day of classes for the fall semester) to receive a refund. After August 27, 2008 all deposits will be forfeited. (A person that is bumped from Room Selection can also take one prospective roommate with him/her as long as both roommates apply together. The refund must be applied for in our office [Campus Center 212] no later than April 21 at NOON.)
