Graduate Room Selection 2008

ROOM SELECTION PROCESS ELIGIBILITY - Graduate Students

  1. You must be a currently enrolled, full time graduate student.
  2. You must pay the $200 room reservation deposit by the February 22, 2008 deadline.
  3. If you are currently in campus housing you must have your $75.00 room damage deposit on file.
  4. You can not have any outstanding damage charges with Residence Life.

All currently enrolled full-time graduate students who wish to live in Graduate housing for the 2008-2009 academic year must pay a non-refundable $200.00 Room Reservation Deposit by February 22, 2008. Each student who pays a deposit will be eligible to select housing in the Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans Residences (a.k.a. "The Graduate Complex") during the room selection process. Numbers will be assigned randomly to each person who has paid a $200.00 non-refundable deposit. The numbers establish the order in which rooms are selected.

If you are unable to attend Lottery you will need to designate someone to serve as your proxy and complete a proxy form. Copies of the proxy form should be given to the proxy and to Residence Life. The person you designate as your proxy will select a room and sign a housing contract on your behalf. Once you return to campus you will be asked to sign your contract.

GRADUATE ROOM SELECTION TIMELINE
DATE EVENT
February 22, 2008 Deadline to Pay Room Reservation Deposit.

The $200.00 deposit must be paid by cash or check made payable to "The College of William and Mary", and will be applied towards the first semester's rent. The deposit must be paid at the Cashier's Window in the Bursar's Office at Blow Hall between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00p.m. by February 17, 2006.

Week of March 7 Room Selection times will be distributed by e-mail.

Room Selection times will be assigned randomly to each person who has paid a $200.00 non-refundable deposit by the set deadline. The times establish the order in which rooms are selected.

March 24, 2008 Squatter's Room Selection Process
1:00pm - 5:00pm, Residence Life Office, Campus Center 212

If a current graduate student living in the Graduate Complex does not get bumped from the selection process, they are eligible to stay in their current room/apartment (squatting), provided the status of their apartment has not changed (ex: converted to a staff space). All students who fall into this category, and would like to squat in their room must come to the Residence Life Office between 1:00pm - 5:00pm to sign a housing contract

Students who are not bumped from the selection process, who do not want to squat in their current room/apartment, and want to select another available room/apartment can do so on-line on March 26.
March 26, 2008 Room Selection Process
Room Selection will be done on-line.

The selection process will take place on March 26, 2008 between 9:00am - 5:00pm . Once a person's room selection window is open, they will be able to log into the room selection process and select a room at the Graduate Complex. If a given apartment does not have full occupancy after the Room Selection process, apartment-mates will be assigned from among the new graduate students enrolling for the Fall 2008 semester.
After Room Selection If you are enrolled at W&M during the Spring 2008 without participating in the Room Selection Process and later decide that you are interested in College housing, you will need to stop by the Residence Life Office and complete a Housing Application.

Projected Per Semester Room Rates for the Graduate Complex: final approval will occur at the April Board of Visitors meeting

Graduate Complex Doubles TBA
Graduate Triples and Quads TBA

The Voluntary bump process does not apply to graduate students because the number of graduate deposits paid does not exceed the amount of space available in Graduate Housing.

There are only a few circumstances under which a Graduate student can request a refund of the $200 deposit. If a student:

  1. gets married (a copy of the marriage certificate is required for verification);
  2. is accepted in a William and Mary approved Study Abroad program;
  3. is academically dismissed;
  4. is required to withdraw due to medical reasons;
  5. or transfers to another institution (copy of acceptance letter to the institution is required for verification).
