As of: April 30, 2008, our bump number is at 66. Residence Life will continue accepting requests for voluntary bump until we reach that number.
Voluntary Bump | Involuntary Bump
Reinstatement Numbers:
The difference between males and females is based on space availability and the number of students remaining in the process with active time blocks.
Missing numbers indicates someone reinstated, has voluntarily bumped themselves, or selected rooms during overcrowd selection.

The Voluntary Bump System works like this ( if needed ):
Voluntary bump is used only if the demand for housing exceeds the number of upper-class space available for 2008-2009. The room reservation deposit collected until 5:00pm on February 22, indicates an individual's interest in living in campus housing. The number of deposits will determine the demand for College housing. Residence Life matches that demand for housing with the number of available spaces for upper-class students. We will ask for volunteers to be bumped only if the demand for housing exceeds the supply of housing.
- Voluntary bump will be held March 10-12, 2008.
- Room Selection times will be issued during the week of March 7, 2008.
- Residents who choose to voluntary bump will come to the Office of Residence Life (Campus Center 212). Volunteers will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis until the appropriate numbers are reached. The process will be closed (if) once the established numbers are met.
- All students volunteering will receive a refund of the $200 deposit. The refund process takes approximately 6-8 weeks.
The voluntary bump process is not retroactive. This means that students who chose to live off campus but did not go through the Residence Life voluntary bump process do not get credit for doing so.
Note: Once a student voluntary bumps his/herself from the process they CANNOT go through Overcrowd Selection process to be pulled into an overcrowd room as a bumped student! However, a voluntary bumped student can stop by Residence Life after the Room Selections process is complete and select a space that is left over after all students who have Room Selection time that did not select earlier, or students that are on the NO DEPOSIT list have had an opportunity to select housing.
The Involuntary Bump Process works like this (if needed):
Involuntary bump does not mean you can not live in campus housing for the 2008-2009 academic year but it does mean that you are temporarily excluded from participating in the Room Selection process. Unless we have enough voluntary bumps, we will issue involuntary bumps on March 17-18, 2008.
- This means that the Room Selection time block issued to a bumped student will not be valid until/unless he or she is reinstated into the Room Selection Process.
- There will be a meeting with bumped students on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 4:00pm in the Campus Center, Little Theatre.
- When students are bumped, reinstatement numbers are issued based on social class with bumped juniors getting the lowest (best) reinstatement numbers and bumped sophomores getting the highest reinstatement numbers.
- Check for reinstated numbers above.
- Since individuals drop out of the Room Selection process for a variety of reasons, involuntarily bumped students may be reinstated prior to or during the Room Selection Process. If you are reinstated, you will use your original Room Selection time block as if you were never bumped.
- Bumped students who are not reinstated may also come to Residence Life after the Room Selection process to choose from the any remaining available rooms.
- Any bumped student who has not been assigned housing by the end of Room Selection process and is still interested in campus housing, must notify Residence Life that he/she wishes to continue on the waiting list for a space.
- Bumped students are housed before former students, transfer students (with the exception of designated transfer spaces), and currently enrolled students who did not pay a housing deposit.
- Bumped students may be housed during Overcrowd Selection by choosing a double (with two eligible students) or a triple (with three eligible students) which has been approved for overcrowding (Link to Room). Overcrowding by non-bumped students also allows bumped students to be reinstated. Overcrowd Selection will run from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in the Residence Life office (Campus Center 212) .
- Bumped students may request a refund of their $200 deposit at any time until they are reinstated or until they accept a space in College Housing. Roommates may also have their $200 deposit refunded.
- We will continue to refund the $200 deposit to students who wish to pull themselves out of the process, up to the number that we need. After we reach our numbers, the process for getting the $200 room deposit back will be closed.
- Requests to have a roommate's $200 refunded will only be accepted until Friday, April 18, 2008 in Residence Life (Campus Center 212).
