John Butt – Graduate Assistant for Student Development

Education:       B.A. in Communications – University of South Alabama

John spent two years working in admissions at the University of South Alabama before making the move to Virginia. He is currently a second year graduate student in the Higher Education Administration program here at the College. John lives in Richmond with his wife, Emily, and their Shetland sheepdog named Bosley and Dora, their cat.

John enjoys playing guitar, snowboarding, and playing intramural sports with the Flying Squirrels in his spare time.

Alexis Cocker – Intern for Sports Clubs

Education: B.A. in Education – University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
M.A. in Higher Education Administration – The College of William & Mary

Alexis is in her third year with the Recreational Sports Department here at W&M. During her two years of graduate school, Alexis worked as the Graduate Assistant for Sport Clubs. 

Alexis enjoys participating in all kinds of sports (she played rugby for four years at Carolina), and is heavily involved in her church where she leads a high school small group bible study. Alexis has decided to stay in Williamsburg for one more year to gain additional experience with sport clubs and to finish her commitment to her bible study.

Seth Finck – Graduate Assistant for Intramurals

Education:       B.S. in History – The College of William & Mary

Seth is a Virginia native who is entering his sixth year at the College; four as an undergraduate and two as a graduate student. While working toward his Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, he has taken on the role of Graduate Assistant for Intramurals. When not at work, Seth enjoys watching movies, listening to music, and playing any sport imaginable. But his favorite activity is spending excessive amounts of quality time with his family and friends.

Theran Fisher – Assistant Director of Outdoor Recreation and Student Development

Education: B.S. in Communications – James Madison University
M.S. Ed. in Outdoor and Environmental Education – Northern Illinois University

After a stint in the Midwest, Theran returned to Virginia in the summer of 2006 to join the Recreational Sports Department. When not at work, Theran enjoys volunteering with the Williamsburg Fire Department and engaging in just about any outdoor activity.

Greg Henderson – Assistant Director of Sports Clubs and Aquatics

Education: B.A. in Secondary Education and English – SUNY at Geneseo
M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration – The College of William & Mary

Greg is in his seventh year with the Recreational Sports Department, two years of which were spent as a Graduate Assistant. He is responsible for the administration of 45 Sports Clubs and managing the pool and Aquatics program.

Greg enjoys spending time with his wife, Lesley, and one year old son, Rowan. He loves hiking, biking and running, and helps coordinate an annual adventure race that raises money to help send children in need to summer camp.

Linda Hicks – Administrative Assistant

Linda has 40 years work experience; 23 of of which are with the Recreational Sports Department. Some of the things she enjoys are reading, gardening, taking walks and family history research. She especially enjoys spending time with family, which includes her husband of 31 years, her daughter and son-in-law, and her dog and four cats.

James Holmes – Equipment Center Supervisor and Maintenance Technician

Education: B.S. in Sports Management – Lees-McRae College

James has been working for the Recreational Sports Department for one year. Outside of work, James enjoys coaching the Junior Varsity basketball team at Hampton Christian High School.

Linda Knight – Director

Education: B.S. in Physical Education – Virginia Tech
                 M.S. in Athletic and Recreation Administration – Virginia Tech

Linda was at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia for 13 years before coming to William and Mary.  While at Emory she served as the Assistant Director and Director of Recreation.  She has been at William and Mary for 8 years.

When not working, Linda loves spending times with her dogs Trouble and Chaos and her cats Buddy, Hokie and Tucker. She enjoys traveling, going to the beach and most outdoor activities.

Jenny Ruehrmund – Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness

Education: B.S. in Health Sciences – James Madison University
                 M.S.Ed. in Health Promotion – Virginia Tech
 

Jenny has been working with W&M Rec Sports since July 2004. She is certified as a Fitness Professional by the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Council on Exercise and the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America.

When she is not working Jenny enjoys exercising outside, reading, watching movies, traveling and spending time with friends and family.

Joe Tighe – Assistant Director of Intramurals

Education: B.A. in History – University of South Carolina
                 M.A. in Education – University of South Carolina

Joe started working in the Recreational Sports Department at the College in July of 1988. He is an avid Los Angeles Dodger fan. He enjoys coaching two adult softball teams in the summer and officiating high school basketball. Joe and his wife Kathryn have been married for nine years and have a son, Samuel Calgary.
