The Thomas Jefferson Program in Public Policy (MPP)

The Washington Program

This program, required of first-year graduate students, is designed to show the broad range of opportunities in the D.C. area for policy professionals. Students meet with policy practitioners from government and private sectors covering the gambit of fields from environmental policy, telecom policy, international trade and economic development, federal budget policy, health care and social policy, etc. In addition to using William and Mary's Washington Office at DuPont Circle, recent programs have made site visits to:

  • Congressional Budget Office
  • Executive Office of the President - Office of Management and Budget
  • Library of Congress - Congressional Research Service
  • U.S. General Accounting Office
  • The World Bank

In 2005, students visited GAO, CBO, EPA, and the Supreme Court where they heard oral arguments in the Ashcroft v. Oregon case.   View details here.
