The Thomas Jefferson Program in Public Policy (MPP)
The Center for Public Policy Research
The Center for Public Policy Research is the research arm of the Thomas Jefferson Program in Public Policy. It was established to create cooperative relationships. These relationships with public and private organizations that result in unique learning opportunities for students and opportunities that enhance faculty teaching and scholarship.
The Center is organized into two divisions: the Division of Policy Research and the Division of Survey Research.
The Division of Policy Research focuses on policy research related to economic development, environment, human resources (including crime, education, health, and labor), and science and technology. The Division of Survey Research conducts and supports surveys for research funded through the Division of Policy Research, other academic and administrative units, and for courses.
Each year, selected graduate and undergraduate students actively engage in policy and survey research in the Center, working with many public (federal, state, and local governments) and private organizations. In some cases, students are the primary researchers on projects, and in other cases, students are integral members of project teams with faculty and staff of the College’s many schools, programs, and departments. By matching students, faculty, and Center staff with projects in which they have both interest and expertise, the Center conducts objective, non-partisan, analytical research. Projects include program and policy evaluations, cost-benefit analyses, statistical analyses, surveys, and qualitative analyses.
In all cases, students have played an integral role in completing projects. The Center is committed to involving students in its research projects by allowing them opportunities to work with clients on current public policy problems.
