The Thomas Jefferson Program in Public Policy (MPP)

Graduate Admissions

To receive priority consideration for admission and financial aid, the deadline for submission of applications is February 15. Applications received after February 15 will be reviewed if space is available in the program. We encourage online submission of applications, but welcome receipt of applications through the mail (see address below).

Each year the admissions committee examines the overall record of applicants, including their college transcript, GRE scores, letters of recommendation, and relevant work and internship experience, to assess their potential for success as students in the program and as professionals in the policy world.

M.P.P. students’ academic backgrounds vary widely, and no particular undergraduate major is required or encouraged. The most common undergraduate majors are Economics and Political Science, but typically a variety of undergraduate majors are represented in each class. Incoming students are expected to have completed principles of economics. In addition, intermediate microeconomics and some exposure to introductory statistics is highly recommended. Students lacking an adequate background in economics may be required to complete an introductory economics class before enrolling.

Applications for admission to graduate study may be downloaded from this website. A nonrefundable processing fee of $45.00 is required for application for admission to graduate study in Arts & Sciences. This fee is not credited to the student's account.
