William & Mary

Student Services

Individual counseling

Individual counseling involves one-to-one meetings with a counselor to address important personal concerns (see FAQs).  These services are free to enrolled students.

Couples counseling

Couples' counseling involves both members of the couple usually meeting with a single counselor to address communication and relationship problems.  To be eligible for these free services, one of the partners must be an enrolled William & Mary student.

Group counseling

Group counseling usually involves 5-8 students meeting with one or two counselors to address issues of shared concern within the group.  Group services are free to enrolled students.  For most, group therapy is the most effective and appropriate treatment option. Family counseling

Family sessions usually involve two or more members of a family meeting with a single counselor to address difficulties within the family.  Family counseling services are free to enrolled students. Consultations to parents concerned about a student at William & Mary are also available.

Depending upon available resources, Counseling Center staff are available to design and/or implement outreach programs on a wide variety of psycho-educational topics.  Consultation services are offered to college administrative units, organizations, and academic departments to aid in effective organizational functioning.
