Fall 2014

September

Rock Climbing (Elizabeth's Furnace)
September 5-7

Cost: $30 (students), $40 (faculty/staff)

Elizabeth's Furnace is a rock climbing destination in Central-Northern Virginia, near Warrenton. We will be camping out less than a mile from the crag on Friday and setting up top-ropes to climb all day Saturday. Paulo, Olivia, and James will lead each participant in expanding their horizons, upward. Delicious food and tasty sends await those who are willing to spend a weekend becoming a stronger and more experienced granite-grabber.

Full Moon Paddle
September 8 

Cost: FREE!

Hit Lake Matoaka for some paddling by the light of the moon. Edible treats to be provided by the Tribe Adventure Program.

Surf n' SUP
September 12-14

Cost: $60 (students), $70 (faculty/staff)

Join the Tribe Adventure Program for a weekend of surfing and stand up paddleboarding at the outer banks! We will be leaving Friday 9/12 and returning Sunday 9/14. We will have a fun-filled beach day Saturday, complete with surfing, SUP-ing, frisbee, volleyball, etc. No experience necessary!

White Water Rafting

Skydiving
September 27

Nervous Mothers be advised, Campus Recreation is running a skydiving trip! Spend a leisurely Sunday jumping out of a plane with Peter and James. Through a partnership with a nearby skydiving outfitter, campus rec can offer one of the most exhilarating experiences that extreme sports has to offer, in a controlled, safe environment. This is perennially one of our most popular trips, so sign up early!

Climbing/Bouldering Fall Break Trip
October 10-14

Cost: TBD

Are you looking to become a better Rock Climber? Do you want to take the fast track? Did your parents fill your room with exercise equipment, so you can't go home for fall break? Use your fall break to do something fulfilling and relaxing. Grayson Highlands is a beautiful state park along the Appalachian Trail, and happens to be one of the Southeast's premier bouldering destinations. Learn all about beginner, intermediate, or advanced on the wall movement in a safe environment with your experienced outdoor boulderers: Paulo Black, James Palmer, Matt Pienkowski, and Peter Hansen.

Backpacking Fall Break Trip
October 10-14

Cost: $50 (students), $60 (faculty/staff)

De-stress over Fall Break by trekking through the Grayson Highlands to Damascus, VA! Spend four days enjoying the incredible fall colors of Virginia and camping out at night. No experience is required, however, you will be carrying your own gear over challenging terrain, so participants should have good physical fitness.

Old Rag Day Hike
October 25

Cost: $15 (students), $20 (faculty/staff)

Join TAP in our valiant charge up one of the great fortresses (mountains) of Virginia. And when we say charge, we mean a hike that requires NO prior experience, and in fact, encourages new comers to join in the march! Old Rag has been called the most photographed summit in Virginia, and for good reason, as the prize at the top is a truly breathtaking view of the area. We will set out friday night, and return victorious on Sunday afternoon.

Fall Colors Bike Ride
October 26

Cost: $15 (students), $20 (faculty/staff)

Join the Tribe Adventure Program on a for a tour of Williamsburg's beautiful fall colors on the scenic Colonial Parkway. Bikers of all abilities welcome, BYOB (bring your own bike) & helmet. Meet at the Rec.

November

Backpacking Trip
November 1-2

Cost: $30 (students), $40 (faculty/staff)

Join the Tribe Adventure Program for 2 days of hiking this Virginia gem. We will leave Saturday morning and hike to the top, eat lunch while checking out the breathtaking views. We will be camping overnight at a nearby campground.

Bouldering Trip
November 14-16

Cost: $25 (students), $35 (faculty/staff)

Bouldering is Rock Climbing…on small rocks. Also known as pebble wrestling, bouldering involves climbing short heights above the ground on freestanding boulders with protection in the form of crash pads and people "spotting" the climber. This trip will seek to introduce bouldering to climbers with moderate experience, but will be suitable for beginners as well. Bonus, we will get to camp out Saturday night!

Thanksgiving Camping Trip
November 29-30

Cost: $20 (students), $30 (faculty/staff)

Wind down this Thanksgiving break and avoid the post-Turkey Day coma by hiking Sharp Top Mountain, once thought to be the tallest mountain in Virginia! We'll enjoy panoramic views, summit a rock scramble, and indulge in some good eats.
