April 2008 Award Recipient: Sarah Peyton

The Recognizing Achievement in Leadership (RAIL) Committee would like to announce that Sarah Peyton ('11) has been named recipient of the April 2008 Outstanding Student Leader of the Month Award.

Sarah is recognized for her work with as girl-scout chair for Kappa Delta. She has planned several events including a sleepover at the sorority house and a ghost tour through Colonial Williamsburg. Sarah has already made significant contributions and is in the process of planning events for next fall. Her nominator, Erin O'Grady spoke of the respect that the women of Kappa Delta have for Sarah and states, "Sarah is very genuine and appreciates everyone who helps her. I believe she has enormous potential..."

March 2008 Award Recipient: Emily Powell

The Recognizing Achievement in Leadership (RAIL) Committee would like to announce that Emily Powell ('10) has been named recipient of the March 2008 Outstanding Student Leader of the Month Award.

Emily is recognized for her work with Hispanic Culture Organization's annual Spring Conference. Her dedication and diligence made this conference possible. Her nominator, Brittany Fulton, comments, "This conference would not have happened if it weren't for the hard work and dedication of Emily Powell. She goes above and beyond what she is called to do to make sure that things get done, sacrificing her free time while doing it." Brittany continues by stating, "Emily remains calm and perseveres under pressure and critisism. Essentially, Emily Powell is an extremely dedicated individual who not only talks the talk, but also walks the walk."

February 2008 Award Recipient: Natasha Hakkal

The Recognizing Achievement in Leadership (RAIL) Committee would like to announce that Natasha Hakkal ('09) has been named recipient of the February 2008 Outstanding Student Leader of the Month Award.

Natasha was nominated for this award because of her hard work and dedication to Circle K International as the Service Initiative Chair. Natasha recently coordinated the Community Service Awareness Week on campus. This week included a different service project each day of the week. To quote her nominator, Mitra Irdmusa, "(This event) was a success, with 150+ hours of service completed with Circle K International members."

January 2008 Award Recipient: Amelia Mathias

The Recognizing Achievement in Leadership (RAIL) Committee would like to announce that Amelia Mathias ('08) has been named recipient of the January 2008 Outstanding Student Leader of the Month Award.

Nominated by Diane Soboski and Jean Peacock for her work with the William and Mary Career Center, Amelia is considered an integral and vital part of the daily operations of this office. Amelia is often responsible for the training of new student employees, creating Career Center marketing, and behaves in the professional manner that is expected by this office. Her nominators had this to say about Amelia, "...within the office she is the 'go to girl'...I don't know what I would do without her! She is truly an outstanding student, person, and leader!" and "You will be hard pressed to find a student on campus who is more hard working and successful in her endeavors than Amelia. She continually shows us the best that William and Mary can offer..."
