Fall 2013 RAIL Award Recipients

August/September/October’s Outstanding Student Leader:  Emily Mahoney

Emily Mahoney embodies the ideal William and Mary student in that she is not only involved in a wide variety of activities, but she works diligently to complete them to the best of her ability.  Emily is an active member of MANOS (Medical Aid Nicaragua Outreach Services), RUF (Reformed University Fellowship), a public health lab, the Sharpe Community Scholars Program, and is a research assistant for AidData.  Emily’s nominee says, “She positively affects campus life without asking for anything in return.”  The nominee wishes to recognize Emily for her selflessness and humility as she serves as a team player who does her best with her schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and in her commitments to her friends and community.

November’s Outstanding Student Leader:  Cassie Holmes

As the publicity director of the planning committee for the second annual Veritas Forum held earlier this month, Cassie coordinated advertisement logistics across campus and Williamsburg to maximize the effectiveness of the advertisements.  Thanks to her efforts, the Veritas Forum was a tremendous success with over 300 students attending the event to engage in a conversation about a sensitive but important issue of faith and suffering.  Without Cassie’s leadership, the event would not have been possible. Cassie is also the publicity director of the William & Mary Symphony Orchestra.  Not only does Cassie contribute to the logistics of the entire event and concert planning, she goes a step further by volunteering to invite the college community to come take part in the event.  She is the force behind the success of both the Veritas Forum and the orchestra concert.
