September 2009 Recipient: Tildi Sharp '10

The Recognizing Achievement in Leadership (RAIL) Committee would like to announce that Tildi Sharp '10 is the recipient of the September 2009 Outstanding Student Leader of the Month Award.

Tildi spent her summer as a Senior Admission Interviewer. In her position she interviewed over 100 prospective applicants to the College and gave tours to thousands of others and their families. Her work will help the College continue to receive record numbers of applicants.

In the words of nominator Wendy Livingston, "She's not someone who seeks the limelight but her genuine nature and her remarkable abilities to make her someone others want to follow. She's not loud or in your face or overbearing but instead she is thoughtful, admirable and powerful. She is smart, sophisticated, professional, and a friend to all."

October 2009 Recipient: Virginia Newton '10

The Recognizing Achievement in Leadership (RAIL) Committee is pleased to announce that Virginia Newton '10 is the recipient of the October 2009 Outstanding Student Leader of the Month Award.

Virginia Newton is co-President of Building for Tomorrow, an organization that raises money to build schools in Uganda. She organized Lose the Shoes Soccer Tournament and a Mark Makeup Party, both fundraisers for the organization. She also works in the Social Cognition Lab and is a Fitness Instructor at the Recreation Center.

In the words of nominator Cheryl Dickter, "Virginia has a difficult class and work schedule, but manages to find time to dedicate countless hours to helping those less fortunate than herself. She does all this with passion and grace, and is always smiling. Virginia is truly an inspiration to other college students at W&M and around the globe"

November 2009 Recipient: Jennifer Schindler '11

The Recognizing Achievement in Leadership (RAIL) Committee would like to announce that Jennifer Schindler '11  is the recipient of the November 2009 Outstanding Student Leader of the Month Award.

Jennifer Schindler is president of Spotlight Show Choir and a co-president of the Student CARES Team. Both organizations increased campus programming and initiatives under her leadership, including  a heavier performance schedule for Spotlight and educational campaigns through CARES.

In the words of nominator Claire Meers, "I think that what it truly comes down to is the fact that Jen understands what it means to be a part of a team and to work with others.  She understands people, and because of that understanding she has been able to develop not only her abilities, but also the abilities of those around her."
