November 2006 Award Recipient: Lilli Mann

The Recognizing Achievement in Leadership (RAIL) Committee would like to announce that Lilli Mann '07 has been named the November Outstanding Student Leader of the Month Award recipient.

Together with a small group of Community Service Leaders, Lilli worked to establish a "Latinos in the U.S." themed-service month for November. The group worked to create awareness and traveled to the Eastern Shore to work with migrant workers. The month cumulated in the Let's Eat Together!/Todos Junots! dinner which Lilli spearheaded. The dinner brought together 175 members of the W&M and Williamsburg community for a free dinner, salsa music and dancing, and conversation-in both English and Spanish. Working from a limited budget, Lilli secured a location, vendors, musicians, and volunteers to staff the event. The evening necessitated the coordination of several agencies, both on and off campus, and reaching out to members of the local Latino community. By all accounts, Lilli managed this responsibility with ease and the dinner turned out to be a phenomenal event.

October 2006 Award Recipients: Denis Beausejour and Samantha Fien-Helfman

The Recognizing Achievement in Leadership (RAIL) October Outstanding Student Leader of the Month award recipients are Denis Beausejour '08 and Samantha Fien-Helfman '09.

Together, Denis and Samantha conceived of, designed, and implemented the Green and Gold Affair. A fall social event, Green and Gold attracted over 900 students in its inaugural year. Spearheading an effort to coordinate a DJ, band, food and bar service, as well as publicity for the event, Denis and Samantha undertook a massive coordination effort without the support of a already establish committee or organization. The effort necessary to successfully implement such a massive event from the ground up is astounding. Furthermore, Green and Gold aided 55 student organizations who had signed on as co-sponsors of the event; for every ticket sold, $5 was donated to the organization of the student's choice.

Thanks to the efforts of Denis and Samantha, Green and Gold was a huge success, and, the committee believes, a newly established tradition at the College of William and Mary.
