Elevating Your Personal Best

The "Elevating Your Personal Best" program was launched in Spring 2015 as a way for any William & Mary student to hone his/her leadership style and practices.  The original program focused on looking at leadership through the lens of Kouzes and Posner's Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership.  Since then we have expanded the program to offer an additional version that utilizes StrengthsQuest to help participants identify their "signature strengths."

Elevating Your Personal Best: Strengths Edition (Winter 2018)

Ever been asked “what are your strengths,” and struggled come up with an answer or think about it a little later and think, “oh, I wish I had said ______ instead”?   Through “Elevating Your Personal Best: Strengths Edition” Student Leadership Development will help you learn more about yourself so that you can articulate your own personal strengths and how you use them in your leadership and involvement.   This leadership development initiative will offer participants a highly personalized opportunity for self-assessment, personal reflection, coaching, and action planning through the very popular StrengthsQuest online instrument by Gallup.

*For leadership teams (like committees or executive boards) interested in participating, we can develop a "Team Dimensions Profile" to help you better understand your strengths as a team and how you can best leverage the strengths of individuals to advance the shared goals of the team.  A minimum of 3 team members must participate in order to do this additional component.

Elevating Your Personal Best: Exemplary Leadership Practices (Fall 2018)

This individual experience uses the Leadership Practices Inventory (Kouzes & Posner) to help identify the ways in which a student engages in effective leadership practices as well as opportunities for growth and development. The participants of this program take the Leadership Practices Inventory Self-Assessment and have observers, who have seen the student in a leadership role, fill out a Leadership Practices Inventory as well about the participant which provides the participant with feedback from their peers.  An individual report is generated for each participant, drawing from the self and observer assessments; this report serves as the foundation for the participant to identify strengths as well as opportunities for future growth and development. This leadership development initiative will offer participants a highly personalized opportunity for self-assessment, personal reflection, and action planning.
