New Student Welcome Receptions

Each year the Center for Student Diversity and many of our diversity student organizations welcome new students to the W&M community at our new student welcome receptions during orientation.  The Multicultural Student Welcome Reception and the LGBTQ Welcome and Information Session offer opportunities for new students to learn about campus life and resources and meet student organization members.

Lecture Series
An important part of the mission of the Center for Student Diversity is to educate the entire campus community on issues of diversity and multiculturalism. Our campus conversations about diversity topics are enriched by the knowledge, insights, and talents of noted speakers, scholars and performers.  Guests who have visited campus throughout the years include: Cornel West, Nikki Giovanni, Gomez Pena,  Julian Bond, Maria Hinajosa, Myrlie Evers-Williams,  Roland S. Martin, Michael Eric Dyson, Staceyann Chin, Evelyn Hu-Dehart, Richard Blanco, Marc Lamont Hill, Julianne Malveaux, John Legend, and many more.

Pre-Kwanzaa Celebration

Working with students, the Center for Student Diversity honors its origins of support for African American students through an evening of community uplift focusing on the principles of the Kwanzaa holiday. Student organizations organize a program explaining each of the seven principles, followed by a time of sharing and fellowship through conversation and a community dinner.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration
William & Mary's annual observance of Dr. King's legacy kicks off the spring semester.  The William & Mary chapter of the NAACP organizes a Candlelight Vigil and readings of Dr. King's words. Following the vigil and walk across campus, students and community members gather for an address by a guest speaker.
