Van Safety Training
In order to drive a university vehicle (car or van), a student must be Van Safety certified by W&M Police though the Van Safety Training. Any student who has previously taken and passed this class does not need to retake the class; you are still an approved driver for college vehicles. You CANNOT drive any college vehicle without this training. Individuals who have had a moving violation within the past year are not eligible to participate in this training to become certified.
There is a $15 fee (check preferred and non-refundable) to take the class. If you register and take the class you will get your $15 back. If you register for the class and do not attend the class, you will not receigve a refund.
If classes do not have at least 5 people registered by 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday before, the class will be cancelled. To reserve a space in a training session, please come to the Office of Student Activities (Campus Center 203) at least one week in advance. When you register, you will be given a W&M Police Department Van Driver Training form that must be filled out and taken to Campus Police 5 days in advance of your scheduled class. Each class is limited in size so plan ahead and schedule your space early. If you have any questions, call Student Activities at 221-3300.
Under the university's Vehicle Use Policy, you are required to complete a Student Driver Authorization Form prior to driving
(1) a university vehicle OR
(2) a personally-owned vehicle on university business or for a university-related activity (each as defined in the Policy) where you will be driving another student or seeking reimbursement (applicable if you are also an employee of the university).
All classes are held in the conference room in the student organizational office suites on the second floor of the Campus Center
