Greek Life
The College of William and Mary serves as the birthplace of greek-letter organizations with the founding of Phi Beta Kappa in 1
776. With a legacy of over 225 years, our Greek community at William and Mary strives to lead the way in Greek life, fostering student development and campus involvement. Nearly 30% of all undergraduates are involved in the 32 groups (20 fraternities and 12 sororities) that make up the Fraternity & Sorority community at the College. As a residential undergraduate institution, our fraternity and sorority members are involved in a very active Greek community – fraternity and sorority members also hold key leadership positions in other areas of student life.
The fraternity and sorority communities are lead by their respective governance councils: the Inter-Fraternity Council(IFC), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and the Panhellenic Council (WMPC or Panhell).
