The Global Education Office supports global education opportunities abroad and at W&M.

Interested in leading a study abroad program? Three ways to get involved teaching students abroad:
  • Annual Faculty-led Summer & Winter Programs - 
    • The Global Education Office (GEO) and the International Studies Advisory Committee (ISAC) solicit applications each year for long-standing study abroad programs. 
    • We are currently seeking applications for some Winter 2024-25 program director positions.  Deadline: Monday, April 15, 2024
    • Summer 2025 Program Director applications are now open! Extended deadline for select programs: April 17, 2024
Interested in proposing a new study abroad program?
  • One-time Short-term Study Abroad Programs
    • Winter and Summer 2024 RFP application deadline was January 24, 2024
    • The call for proposals for new programs in 2025-2026 will be posted in November 2024.
  • Summer, Winter, Exchange, or Semester Study Abroad Programs
Interested in participating in a program site review?

The Global Education Office (GEO) and the International Studies Advisory Committee (ISAC) review all summer programs on a rotating basis. Opportunities for faculty to apply to review these programs will be posted here as well as announced in the WM Digest. 

Site visits take place over a three-day window. Since we are still finalizing excursions and schedules, applicants need to be available during the entire timeframes below. Exact dates will be set in April.

GEO and ISAC are currently seeking applicants for the following site review:

  • Vilnius, Lithuania - site visit will take place sometime between June 3-14 
    • due to this being a Russian language program, Russian language skills a preference
    • application due date: Monday, April 11

The ISAC chooses a faculty-representative for each of the three-day (plus travel days) intensive site visits. In making its selection, the ISAC weighs the following:

  • regional /topical expertise related to the program destination or topic of study; and/or
  • linguistic proficiency, particularly for programs conducted largely in a language other than English; and/or
  • experience teaching undergraduate students preferred; and/or
  • familiarity with summer study abroad programs (eg. having served as a Program Director to a different study abroad program, having served on one of the international committees) in order to have experience with the challenges of these types of programs.

In order to provide a different perspective on the program, for programs closely connected to a particular academic department, reviewers are chosen from departments not affiliated with a specific program. For the same reason, previous program directors of the program to be reviewed are also not eligible to apply to review their previous program.

ISAC encourages faculty from across all disciplines to apply.

Flights and travel-related expenses including food, taxis, entry fees, visas, and four nights of lodging are covered for the reviewer. Reviewers may choose to extend their stay or add destinations, with flight costs covered up to the amount of the original review itinerary. The site review days are very busy with meetings from morning through dinner.
