Wait List & Reinstatement

The Opt Out process works like this (if needed):

Opting OUt is used only if the demand for housing exceeds the number of upper-class space available for 2010-2011. The room reservation deposit collected until 5:00pm on February 19, indicates an individual's interest in living in campus housing. The number of deposits will determine the demand for College housing. Residence Life matches that demand for housing with the number of available spaces for upper-class students.  If the demand for housing exceeds the supply of housing, we will ask for volunteers to be Opt Out of the room selection process.

  •  The voluntaruy Opt Out process will start on March 15, 2010 (if needed) and will end once the demand for housing matches available spaces.
  • Room Selection times will be issued during the week of Spring Break.
  • Residents who choose to Opt Out of rRoom Selection will come to the Office of Residence Life (Campus Center 212). Volunteers will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis until the appropriate numbers are reached. The process will be closed (if) once the established numbers are met.
  • Students Opting Out of Room Selection will receive a refund of the $200 deposit. Please note that the refund process takes approximately 6-8 weeks.
  • Once a student Opts Out of the Room Selection process they CANNOT go through Overcrowd Selection process to be pulled into an overcrowd room as a Wait List student! However, a student who Opts Out can stop by Residence Life after the Room Selections process is complete and select a space that is left over after all students who have Room Selection time that did not select earlier, or students that are on the NO DEPOSIT list have had an opportunity to select housing.
  • The Opt Out process is not retroactive. This means that students who chose to live off campus but did not go through the Residence Life to Opt Out of the process do not get credit for doing so.

Special Note: Once a student selects a room through any part of the room selection process they are no longer eligible to Opt Out of Room Selection.

The Wait List Process works like this (if needed):

Being Wait Listed does not mean you can not live in campus housing for the 2010-2011 academic year but it does mean that you are temporarily excluded from participating in the Room Selection process. The room reservation deposit collected until 5:00pm on February 19, indicates an individual's interest in living in campus housing. The number of deposits will determine the demand for College housing. Residence Life matches that demand for housing with the number of available spaces for upper-class students.  If the demand for housing exceeds the supply of housing,we will ask for volunteers to be Opt Out of the room selection process.  If we do not get enough students to Opt Out of the process will need to Wait List some students.

  • If you are wait listed, the Room Selection time block issued to you will not be valid until you are reinstated into the Room Selection Process.  This also means that a roommate will not be able to hold a space for a student while they are on the wait list.
  • There will be a meeting with wait list students on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 4:00pm in the Campus Center, Little Theatre.
  • When students are wait listed, reinstatement numbers are issued based on social class with wait listed juniors getting the lowest (best) reinstatement numbers and wait listed sophomores getting the highest reinstatement numbers.
  • Reinstated numbers will be listed at the top of the page if needed.
  • Since individuals drop out of the Room Selection process for a variety of  reasons, wait listed students may be reinstated prior to or during the Room Selection Process. If you are reinstated, you will use your original Room Selection time block as if you were never wait listed.
  • Wait list students who are not reinstated prior to or during teh room selection process will be contacted by Residence Life after the Room Selection so we can confirm interest in remaining on the waiting list to get housing as space becomes available.
  • Wait List students are housed before former students, transfer students (with the exception of designated transfer spaces), and currently enrolled students who did not pay a housing deposit.
  • Once a student is wait listed, even if reinstated, they can never be wait listed again.  They are "protected" in any future room selection process.
  • Wait List students may be housed during Overcrowd Selection by choosing a double (with two eligible students) or a triple (with three eligible students) which has been approved for overcrowding (Link to Room). Overcrowding by non-wait listed students also allows wait listed students to be reinstated. Overcrowd Selection will run from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm on Monday, April 5, 2010 in the Residence Life Office, Campus Center 212 .
  • Wait listed students may request a refund of their $200 deposit at any time until they are reinstated or until they accept a space in College Housing.  Roommates may also have their $200 deposit refunded.
    • We will continue to refund the $200 deposit to students who wish to pull themselves out of the process, up to the number that we need. After we reach our numbers, the process for getting the $200 room deposit back will be closed.
  • Students protected from the wait list process for Room Selection 2010
    • Any student who has been wait listed in a previous room selection process.
    • Students with a medical need that has been document with the Dean of Students Office by the set date.
    • Spring 2010 study away students.
    • Students currently assigned to overcrowds.
