What types of rooms are available?

There will be both single and double occupancy rooms available. For the 2014-2015 room selection process, we anticipate offering 115 singles and 144 doubles. All rooms include private bathrooms.

What type of furnishings will be in each room?
  • Bed styles and sizes vary greatly and include fulls, queens and kings and do not include linens. Click here for bed sizes.
  • Furniture in the rooms also varies greatly but each room will have a desk, chair, bedside table and a dresser. Closet space will also vary and may include either a hanging rod or wardrobe.

Typical singles have at least the following furniture items:

  • 2 bedside tables
  • Armoire (includes drawer space)
  • Desk
  • Desk chair
  • Lamps

Typical doubles have at least the following furniture items:

  • 1 bedside table
  • Armoire (includes drawer space)
  • College-provided dresser
  • Table
  • 2 chairs
  • Lamps

Once residents have officially moved into their rooms requests for additional desks, desk chairs and wardrobes can be submitted through the College online work order system.

What are the bathrooms like?

There are a couple of different layouts to the bathrooms but all have toiltes, sinks with counter space, and tubs with a shower. All bathrooms are private to the room so only shared with a roommate in the double rooms.

What will the room rates be?

Room rates are projected to be the same as the Jamestown rates.

Can I select to live here during the room selection process?

Yes, One Tribe Place will be a part of the online room selection process for 2014/2015 beginning on April 7. Specific room information will be updated in the housing system after same room sign up.

Will I be able to have a refrigerator or microwave?

Yes, as long as they meet the guidelines in the 2014/2015 Housing Contract.

Will I be able to have a window air conditioner?

No, however each room has an individual control for heat and air conditioning.

Will there be on-site laundry?

Yes

Will there be kitchen facilities?

No. We are excited about One Tribe Place and College staff have been working to ensure the facility meets all current fire safety codes.  Although the building had been used for decades as a hotel once it converted to a new use as a dormitory new and different building codes had to be met.   Before we can add kitchens our Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction department will need to determine electrical, water and sewer requirements; fire protection changes; range exhaust requirements; replacement of flooring; and door fire rating.  There are strict building code requirements for kitchens so it is much more than just buying appliances.  Over time, we plan to install kitchens, but not in the near future. Residents are permitted to bring microwaves and refrigerators that comply with the Housing Agreement.

What kinds of floors are there?

All rooms are carpeted and will be steam cleaned. The hallways are also carpeted.

Are there blinds or curtains?

Each window has draperies, not blinds.

What kind of lighting is there?

While there is a small overhead light in the entry to each room, there is no overhead lighting in the rooms. Lamps will be provided.

Where will I be able to park?

Parking services will administer the parking.

Will there be bike racks?

Yes.

What kind of renovations should we expect?

There will be onging renovation to the non-residential areas, but the extent of that has not been determined.

Will the pool or gym by available to residents? What about the restaurant and bar?

For the 2014-15 academic year the building will be used exclusively as a residence hall. Neither the pool nor the gym will be available to residents.  The College will spend part of the year determining how best to use the space.

Will the room doors open with cards or keys?

The student room doors will be accessible by cardkey.  College ID access systems will be installed on main exterior doors.

Will residents have a  Hall Council?

Yes

Will there be cable TV access?

Yes, cable TV will be available in every room.

What type of internet connection will be available?

Wireless internet service will be available throughout the building. Ethernet installation is planned for Summer 2014.

Will I have landline phone service in my room?

Phone service is the same as it is with other residence halls. You can order landline phone service, if you wish to have it.
