Language Houses

Language Houses

The academic and cultural mission of each Language House is to immerse students in a living environment that fosters increased language study and cultural awareness. Native speaking Tutors facilitate conversation hours, movie nights, cultural celebrations, cooking classes and many other activities for all residents. In addition, they post office hours to provide help with language courses.

The language houses are housed in the Randolph Complex and include: Arabic (on hiatus of 2015-16), Chinese, French, German, Hispanic, Italian, Japanese, and Russian. Students interested in residing in one of these houses for the 2015-2016 academic year must:

  • Submit an on-line application to the Modern Language Department by 5:00p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015. Students should contact Modern Languages and Literatures (221-3634) for additional information or questions on the selection process.
  • Pay a $200 Room Reservation Deposit by the February 20, 2015 deadline.
  • Once selected to participate in one of the special interest houses, you will need to choose a room and sign a contract on March 4, 2015, 5:30pm. Once a contract is signed, the forthcoming room selection time block is null and void. If you cannot make the room selection meeting on March 4, you should designate a proxy to select a room and sign a contract in your absence.
