  • ONLINE APPLICATION PROCESS DIRECTIONS
    • Log in using your William and Mary User ID and Password.
    • Start the application by clicking the Residence Life link in the "Apply Now" section of the homepage.
    • Complete only one online application.
      • Select the application that fits your job search:
        • Head staff positions (HD, CD, HR) with possible consideration for RA/HA/PA/GRA or
        • RA*/PA/HA/GRA positions
          • Tribe Square RA* appointment is 11.5 months, May 22, 2012 - May 14, 2013.
    • References: List only. No written references will be accepted.
      • Two references are required (list information only).
      • One W&M reference residence life student staff may be used as references. (Do not use a Residence life AD or Assistant Director, Professional staff member).
      • One current or former employer, volunteer coordinator, teacher, advisor, or someone who can speak to your qualities and characteristics as they apply to the staff positions.
    • Upload resume (For assistance with resume writing, visit the Cohen Career Center site).
    • Submit the application electronically by 5pm, January, 13, 2012.
  • Schedule and Interview:
    • Interview scheduling is online. When the application is submitted candidates will be notified to schedule an interview(s).
    • Candidates will, in compliance with the W&M Honor Code, sign up for an interview with interviewer(s) they do not know. The only exception is that of the PA or HA positions. All PA candidates will be interviewed by the Assistant Director of Residence Life, Holly Alexander Agati. All HA candidates will be interviewed by the Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Housing, Shylan Scott.
    • Be sure to sign up for the proper interview(s). Most candidates will only have one interview. The exception comes if candidates are interested in also applying for the PA and/or HA positions. In that situation, please schedule a PA and/or HA interview and the other appropriate interview (either HR/HD/CD or RA/GRA/HA). Once scheduled, corrections or rescheduling may not be done online. (For problems contact your interviewer to see if other arrangements can be made. Contact them after January 3, 2012.)
    • Note the date, time, location, and interviewer with whom you have scheduled your interview.
  • Attend interview.
  • Candidates will be notified of their candidate status by email message:
    • Head Resident, Hall Director, Complex Director on January 25 by 5pm.
    • Resident Assistants, Graduate Resident Assistants, Housing Assistants, Program Advocates and Housing Assistants on February 15 by 5pm.
    • Additional offers will be extended as vacancies occur.

  • Timeline
  • Frequently Asked Questions
    • Financial Aid: If you have financial aid, your package MAY be effected by the scholarship awarded for your staff remuneration. Please check with the Financial Aid Office to see if accepting a position will change your aid package.
    • Study Away: Candidates, who are studying away from campus during the spring semester may sign up for interview times in December prior to the end of the semester. Those candidates unable to interview will be contacted for telephone interviews. Please indicate contact telephone number on application or send it to your interviewer when number becomes available.
    • GPA and Student Conduct Requirements: In order to be eligible, a minimum of a 2.0 GPA and an active Student Conduct record of sanctions less than probation (during the Selection Process) are required. Candidates who do not meet this requirement will be notified of ineligibility.
    • Non-US Citizens: All candidates who are Non-US Citizens must first check with Mr. Stephen Sechrist, Assistant Director for International Students, Scholars & Programs (sjsech@wm.edu) at the Reves Center. He will check to see if you have the proper visa/work authorization to permit you to accept any of the Residence Life staff positions.
    • Notifications and Offers: All candidates are guaranteed an interview. Once the interview process concludes and decisions are made, candidates are notified electronically to check their application home page. There will be a statement at the top of each candidate's page in the light yellow band announcing the decision or offer for that candidate.
      • Types of Offers:
      • Hire (Offer):
        • There will be an electronic offer. Once accepted, packets will be prepared for pick up in Campus Center 212. Included in the packet are forms and documents that need to be completed and returned by the published deadlines in offer letters.
        • Applicant is offered an assignment to a specific area, building and room.
        • Some offers have conditions for placement (substance free, Special Interest Houses, Tribe Square)
        • Some offers allow for a roommate. Staff will be given a period of time when they may choose their roommate(s). That person(s) must have paid the room reservation deposit by the established deadline.
      • Waitlist (not ranked):
        • We will establish a pool of acceptable candidates who have accepted the waitlist status. When an opening on staff occurs, we will draw from the waitlisted candidates to fill the vacancies.
        • The waitlist is not ranked, rather people are selected for their ability to fill the need on staff in a particular position. We select from this list until we are not able to find a match. In that case, the position is advertised and new applications are collected.
        • In the event that a chapter member residing in a fraternity or sorority house is offered a student staff position after having signed a housing agreement to live in the fraternity or sorority house, the Chapter President must agree to release the member from house residency. In doing so, the Chapter accepts responsibility to fill that space or pay the established rate for that house vacancy. The approval may be made over e-mail provided the approval comes from the William and Mary e-mail account of the Chapter President.
      • Not Hired:
        • Candidates who will no longer be considered for staff positions.
  • Interviews
    • Come prepared and on time.
    • Read Cohen Career Center Tips on Interviewing
    • Most candidates will have one interview with a member of the Residence Life professional staff.
    • Candidates for PA/HA and additional positions will have two interviews.
    • Telephone interviews will be conducted for those candidates who do not live locally during the interview periods in January and February.
