Pre-Matriculation Test Credits

Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, A-Level, CLEP, and other credit is granted according to W&M score requirements found in the Undergraduate Course Catalog (see Requirements for Degrees section for details).   Score requirements change each year, and incoming students' scores will be assessed for credit in accordance with the catalog in effect at the time of their entry. For 2016-17 entrants, this grid (PDF) should be consulted until the Catalog is published.

Students seeking AP, IB, CLEP, A-Level, or other such credit must have their official scores forwarded by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), University of Cambridge, AQA, or Edexcel directly to the Transfer Credit Coordinator.   We regret that we cannot accept score reports from the student or high school.

Use your Social Security Number!

William and Mary will be better able to process your AP scores if you include your Social Security Number (SSN) on ALL of the AP exams for which you sit.  If you took any AP exams prior to your senior year, please be sure that the College Board sends ALL of the prior year exam scores.  W&M receives AP and IB scores in late June.  Those accompanied by SSN are processed first; others require research.

Confirm Your Credits

Once AP/IB/other exam credit is posted, you may view the credits you earned on your degree evaluation or by viewing your unofficial academic transcript on Banner Self Service.

  • Access Banner by going to myWM, clicking the Banner button, and logging in with your WMuserid and password.
  • Select Student and Financial Aid
  • Select Student Records
  • Then select either Academic Transcript or Degree Evaluation
General Rule

In all cases, the examinations must have been taken prior to high school graduation or within six months thereafter, but in all cases before entering William and Mary.  See the Requirements for Degrees section of the Catalog for full policy and rules.
