Course Distribution Requirements
In order to facilitate student schedule-building, and also because of the limited number of public classrooms, departments and programs are asked to comply with standard course time slots, approved by the Educational Policy Committee and applicable to all undergraduate classes as well as to graduate courses meeting in public classrooms.
Fall and Spring
No more than 40% of each department’s classes may be offered within the time frame of 0900 am to 100 pm.
No more than 15% of a department’s classes may be offered in any single time slot.
At least 40% of each department’s classes should be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; and at least 40% of each department’s classes should be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Multiple sections of a course should not be offered in the same time block unless all other time blocks are being used for the course.
Courses that do not require a classroom for regular meetings (such as honors courses, reading courses, and independent study courses) shall play no part in the computation of the above percentages.
Courses meeting only one day per week must be scheduled at 1530 (3:30) or later, for example:
M (only) 1530-1820 (3:30-6:20) - 3 credits or
