Winter Break Club Cycling Training
| January 19, 2010
The annual cycling team winter training camp was held at a club members' house. Team
members who came to camp were: Cory Scott, Adam Harris, Greg Grosicki, Joseph
O'Brien Applegate, Emily Anthony, Wilson Hale, and Ryan Burbey. The Team rode
every day, as weather or sub-30 degree temps didn't dissuade us. Every member
rode at least 350 miles this past week, with the maximum being 490
(Cory Scott). It was a great time for getting base miles, improving bike handling
skills, learning rules of the road, etc. Other activities included splurging at
a buffet restaurant one night, attending a maintenance clinic given by the local
bike shop (Shenandoah Bicycle Co.), and frequenting thrift stores and discount
grocery stores.
Highlights: The entire team summited Reddish Knob, the
highest point in the Shenandoah Valley with after a six mile climb. A few
members were able to do multiple hundred-mile days. Camp was structured to
allow the members to ride as little or as much as they were comfortable with. Another great winter training camp!
