Community Engagement

Not all learning at William and Mary comes from lectures, books and computers - some of it involves dodge ball, paint brushes and work gloves.  Through the Office of Community Engagement and Scholarship, students are involved in projects with community partners in settings around the corner and across the world.  You can participate in various kinds of service - weekly tutoring, mentoring and anti-hunger programs, Williamsburg Engagement, large-scale local service days, pre-orientation service, partnering with a community in our region and alternative breaks.

With each experience, we provide opportunities for you to delve deeply into the issues behind the service.  You will learn why service is needed, what the social and political contexts are, and what you can do to make a larger impact on the issues in partnership with hard-working community members.  We expect that you will also learn more about yourself, get your hands dirty, and even have fun in the process.

Check out the links on the left side bar for more information about community engagement programs, and sign up for our volunteer listserv to get weekly updates on various opportunities..
