Need-Based Financial Aid

Branch Out Alternative Breaks values socioeconomic diversity on our teams, and works hard to make our programs accessible to all students, regardless of income.  Financial Aid is awarded to participants by application, and all participants must contribute a minimum amount to their trips ($50 for national trips, $300 for international).  Your gift will allow us to reduce barriers for students with need to participate in our alternative breaks.  Visit this page to donate.

Individual Trips

Each team works hard to raise funds to make their trips more affordable for all participants.  Your gift will reduce the overall cost of the trip for each participant, providing supplies for the teams to use, donations to host communities, and travel expenses for team members.  Visit this page to donate.

Spring Break 2011

W&M Global Village Project sends a team of students to Central America over spring break to help construct homes for families in need. The program places an emphasis on educating students on issues related to affordable housing so that they may become well-informed advocates for change in this area. The trip also provides students the unique opportunity to work alongside members of the host community throughout the home-building process, strengthening cross-cultural understanding and creating bonds that span far beyond the time spent abroad.

W&M Haiti Compact

The W&M Haiti Compact alternative break was developed for William and Mary students to participate in rebuilding and recovery after the January 12, 2010 earthquake in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti and its surrounding areas.  As part of a national group of teams from college across the country, our team has committed to returning to Haiti for at least four years of alternative breaks, learning in-depth about social issues affecting the communities with whom we work, educating the campus and others about our experience, and serving as lifelong advocates for Haitian empowerment.  The William & Mary Haiti Compact will work with two different organizations in January 2012 - Sonje Ayiti and International Child Care - Grace Children's Hospital (ICC), working on further developing job and aid initiatives with the Haitian people.

Students for Belize Education
W&M Students for Belize Education

Students for Belize Education is a student-led alternative break that travels to schools in Flowers Bank, Belize and to Caye Caulker (an island off the coast) for 2 weeks every January in order to provide supplemental educational programs, tutoring, and construction. All of these areas tend to be neglected because of a lack of resources and expertise. This service trip hopes to foster a safe and supportive educational environment for these children while promoting cross-cultural exchange and encouraging them to pursue higher education. This experience is meant not only to alter our own perspectives, but also to create a genuine connection with those Belizeans with whom we interact with through our service.
