Tradition of Service Award: The recipient is a graduating senior who has been involved with community engagement throughout his or her college experience.  This person will have demonstrated a sense of caring, concern, and willingness to be involved in addressing community issues through individual or organizational initiative.

Service Organization of the Year Award:  This award honors an outstanding Williamsburg area agency that has shown dedication to providing William and Mary students with engaging opportunities to serve the community and to learn in a co-curricular experiential learning setting. Applicants must complete a nomination form.  Students are strongly encouraged to nominate and fill out the application on behalf of a community partner.

Freshman Service Award

The W Society is an organization committed to promoting and recognizing service in all aspects on campus. In honor of these goals, the organization created the Freshman Service Award, which recognizes one outstanding freshman annually for their commitment to service. If you have any nominations of freshmen you would like for us to consider, please email thevvs@wm.edu with the student's name, a list of their involvements, and a paragraph explaining why you think this student is deserving of the award.

Nominations will be accepted through Sunday, April 10th. The award will be given at the OCES Awards Ceremony on April 20th.

President’s Award for Service to the Community

The President’s Office and The Office of Communit Engagement and Scholarship select recipients of the President’s Award for Service to the Community. Each year one award is given to a student and one to a faculty or staff member who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to service.

Goal Four of the College of William and Mary's strategic plan was to increase the visibility and influence of public service performed by members of the College community and extend the reach of the College's public service activities. One such strategy was to create college-wide Presidential and other awards to recognize outstanding service contributions of faculty, staff, students and organizations.

In March, the President's Office puts out a call for nominations via the WM Digest. Any member of the College community (faculty or staff, full or part time) may be nominated.  Nominations, consisting only of the nominee's name and contact information, are submitted to Drew Stelljes via email, [[adstel]].   An application is sent to the nominee, who must complete the application by mid-May.  Applicants are notified of their status in late June.

Individuals chosen have made a significant and measurable impact on the community. Although we want to recognize people with a proven commitment to service, the impact of their service need not be wide (for example, a volunteer who has helped to improve significantly the quality of a battered women’s life will be as eligible as someone who has worked with several grade school students). This award will recognize the quality of service first, the quantity second.

The award carries a prize of $500, which is donated, in the name of the award recipient, to a community service organization of the recipient’s choice. The winners are recognized at Opening Convocation.
