Goals
Students engaged in regular community service activities will:
- Understand and practice behaviors associated with social responsibility, including interest in community issues, the welfare of others, and concepts of fairness and justice
- Develop a personal and sustainable commitment to serving others
- Understand the function of citizenship in our society and develop a willingness and ability to engage in civic life in ways that build and strengthen communities
- Use reflective thinking processes to establish connections between in-class and out-of-class experiences and make meaning of academic and career pursuits
Students who are involved in office leadership positions will:
- Learn fundamental principles and practices associated with collaborative leadership
- Be able to identify and take advantage of opportunities to test and improve their leadership competencies
- Develop competencies associated with effective functioning in groups and teams
- Develop higher levels of self-awareness in ways that allow them to pursue leadership and service opportunities after graduating
- Understand multicultural issues, value and appreciate the unique contributions of persons from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, and be able to use diversity to strengthen groups and communities

Students who volunteer regularly in community agencies will:
- Help meet identified community needs.
- Have a real and measurable impact on the community.
- Learn practices affiliated with non-profit leadership
- Develop an understanding of the pertinent societal issues by interacting with agency representatives
