International alternative breaks require participants' careful attention to detail, because of the complexity and risk involved with international travel.
All participants in Branch Out International Alternative Breaks must:
- Read the Branch Out International Health & Safety Guidelines (.pdf)
- Submit the Participant Emergency Information form within 48 hours of acceptance on a trip.
- Secure international travel, health and evacuation insurance through Cultural Insurance Services International for $35 for each month of coverage. Individual participants submit $35 to their site leaders, who turn in the total amount to the OCE, Blow 326A. Brochure from Cultural Insurance Services International (travel health insurance) (.pdf); Brochure for CISI Comprehensive Security Evacuation Coverage (.pdf)
Team leaders travel with an emergency protocol manual and are trained in basic emergency response. William and Mary police answer all emergency calls from teams while traveling and follow Student Affairs emergency procedures.
