Holger Schmidt (Ph.D. Columbia University) is a Research Associate at the Institute and Director of the Anticipating the Severity of Internal Conflict (ASIC) project. Dr Schmidt's research and teaching interests include the origins, prevention and management of violent conflict; the role of the United Nations in international security affairs; and quantitative methods. His current research, supported by the Swedish Folke Bernadotte Academy, focuses on developing a statistical model designed to forecast the severity of internal armed conflict in an effort to help improve the theory and practice of early warning and preventive intervention.
