Install Notes

Having more than one antivirus program installed on a computer can cause a decrease in performance and/or system instability. You must make sure that you remove any other installed antivirus programs before installing Sophos AntiVirus .

How to identify your antivirus software

  1. Locate the system tray on your desktop.
This will usually be a small area on the lower right hand side of your task bar that displays your clock. If you see a white shield with a red V on it, you probably have McAfee VirusScan running. If you see a computer with a little First Aid kit you have a version of Norton AntiVirus running. If you see a golden shield tilted on its side then you probably have a version of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition running. You can double-click on any of these icons to verify what program is installed.
  2. Look through the Programs section of the Start menu and the list of software in the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel to be sure you don't have any other antivirus program listed.
  3. Proceed with the appropriate steps below depending on which program you have. If you don't have any installed then skip to Installing Sopho AV.
