Connect to a Campus Printer

Instructions for Connecting and Installing

 
Windows

Connect - Windows XP or Vista

  1. Locate the name of your printer queue.  This name will be printed on a sticker on the printer you would like to use.
  2. Click the Windows Start button
  3. Choose Run (In Vista, type run in the start search box and hit enter)
  4. In the Run dialogue box type \\intrepid.campus.wm.edu\”printer queue name”
    (e.g.,  \\intrepid.campus.wm.edu\jone2hp4100)
  5. You will notice a connecting to printer dialogue box.  In Vista you may be asked to allow the installation of the printer driver.
  6. Your printer is now installed and ready for use.  To make this your default printer, choose the Windows Start button > Control Panel > Printers.  Select printer, right-click and choose Set as Default Printer.

Install - Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7

  1. Click on Start, Run and Type \\gutenberg.campus.wm.edu\printername as listed above into the start search box
  2. You will be prompted for a user name. Type campus\your WMuserid and enter your password

Mac

Connect - Mac OSX 10.4 or above

  1. Locate the name of your printer queue.  This name will be printed on a label on the printer you would like to use.
  2. Use Print & Fax to add a printer with the following settings. You can find Print & Fax by clicking on the Apple icon in the top-left corner and choosing System Preferences.
  3. Choose the IP Printer button at the top of the Printer Browser window.
  4. For Protocol use LPD or LPR/LPD
  5. For Address, use intrepid.campus.wm.edu
  6. For Queue, use the text at the end of intrepid.campus.wm.edu found on a label on the printer.
    (e.g., jone2hp4100 for \\intrepid.campus.wm.edu\jone2hp4100)
  7. For Name, use something meaningful to you
  8. For Location, use something meaningful to you
  9. Print Using: Choose select printer software and choose your model printer. For example, for HP LaserJet 4100 choose HP LaserJet 4100 Series v.3010.107

Install - Macintosh OS 10.3 or newer

  1. Use Print & Fax to add a printer with the following settings
  2. Choose IP Printer button at the top of the Printer Browser window.
  3. Protocol: LPD or LPR/LPD
  4. Address: gutenberg.campus.wm.edu
  5. Queue: The text at the end of gutenberg.campus.wm.edu in the printer list above. For example, enter barrett for the Barrett Lab or mwll for the Law School Lab.
  6. Name: Something meaningful to you.
  7. Location: Something meaningful to you.
  8. Print Using: Choose HP and model 4200 for labs and classrooms.
  9. For Mac printing to Ricoh printers in Landrum and Jamestown South residence halls, select HP Laserjet 6 Series as the driver. The HP Laserjet 6 Series drive is available on the operating system of all recently purchased Macs.
  10. For the business school printers see the special note above about drivers.
  11. Click Add, then continue (the settings will be detected automatically)
  12. At this point you can send a print job to the printer but it will be paused on the print server. To release the print job:
  13. Open a web browser to https://labprinting.wm.edu (tip: add this link to your bookmark bar for quick access)
  14. Logon with your WMuserid and password. (campus\userid)
  15. Select the print job and click the print button
