Accessing Files from Off Campus
The H: drive and G: drive may be accessed from off campus. The College requires Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) to access William & Mary network resources from off campus computers. If you have questions see our FAQs about SFTP. The College provides Secure FTP software as a free download from our Software Repository for both Windows users (SSH Secure Shell Client), and Mac users (Fugu or Fetch).
Access H: Drive and G: Drive
To access network space from any computer connected to the Internet (off-campus):
- Launch a secure FTP application and start a new connection.
- Connect to sftp.wm.edu to use your H: drive or G: drive.
- Use the WMuserid and password you use for email and myWM.
- You should see folders named HOME and FILES. HOME is your H: drive and FILES is your G: drive.
Mac Users: Read details about using Fugu and Fetch to connect to webftp.wm.edu.
It is normal to see folders that you cannot open or write files into. If you have problems opening a folder you should have access to, send an email to [[support]].
