The newest Mac operating system (OS X v10.5 Leopard) is causing a problem with file permissions on shared (network) folders.
What should you do if you are using a Mac running Leopard? There are two options.
- Use only SFTP to access network files and folders. For most, using SFTP when on campus is not appealing.
- Mount directly to the folder that contains the files you want to edit. For example, if you want to edit the page at http://www.wm.edu/it/newstudents/file.php, mount the "newstudents" folder, not the "it" folder. So, when editing your personal web space, follow the instructions for connecting to network space from on campus and enter the full path to your site in the Server Address field: smb://files.campus.wm.edu/wmuserid$/public_html
There will be some bug fixes in v10.5.2 of the Mac OS. But until the new version is released, access shared folders and files using the options above. Please contact the Technology Support Center at 1-HELP or [[support]] if you need assistance.
