Network Storage Drives

The H: drive and G: drive and Academic Storage may be accessed from on campus or off campus.

Campus Domain (G: Drive, H: Drive, P: Drive) - Faculty & Staff

The Campus Domain allows faculty and staff to log in to a collection of IT servers for access to shared network resources such as an H: drive for personal space, extensive group space (G: drive) for campus departments, and public file sharing space (P: drive).

Access is automatically provided except for the Group Space (G: drive). Departmental representative may contact the TSC at 757-221-4357 (HELP) or to request G: drive access for new faculty and staff.

Personal Network Space (H: Drive) - Faculty, Staff, Students (5GB)

The H: drive is personal network space made available to faculty, staff and students. In public labs and offices this is automatically mapped as the H: drive, but it can also be accessed on your personal machine by mapping to the drive while on campus. Off-campus access is available using a secure FTP client with the host name You'll need to provide your WMuserid and password. To request an increase in your H: drive, send an email to; charges may apply.

Public Directory (P: Drive)

The P: drive is also known as the Public Directory.  It is a temporary location for sharing information and data.  The files stored in the P: Drive can be viewed and deleted by others.  The P: Drive should not be used to store copyrighted materials, personal music, photographs, or sensitive/confidential information.

Academic Storage (ACStore)

IT provides additional network storage space to W&M faculty, students and research groups needing larger amounts of storage for academically-related digital materials through the ACStore.

The red bar reflects the storage usage for the entire College.Note about space availabilty: Looks can be deceiving!

You probably have more storage space than you think.  Our network storage server displays the size and usage for ALL H: drives for college faculty, staff and students combined. So, while the icon for your H: drive may look full, it's probably not.

Same thing happens with the G: Drive for your department.  Instead of seeing the usage for your department, you see the usage for ALL departments.  Don't worry, we'll contact you when you get close to the quota!

If you would like to see how much space you are actually using:

  • Double click on the H: drive icon to open it up in windows explorer
  • Select all the files and folders.  An easy way to do this is to type CTRL-A.
  • Right click and select Properties. That will calculate how much space you are using in your H: drive.
