Patches & Upgrades

W&M IT is committed to maintaining William & Mary software systems at a level that ensures the stability and security of the system.  We will initiate upgrades and patches that are required to meet this minimum threshold. 

However, for minor updates and patches, point updates for specific modules, or feature enhancements, the patch/update must be requested by the functional user of the system (aka system managers or system admins within departments).  This request will initiate the update process.

Functional users are expected to:

  • Keep informed of upcoming patch/update releases. (For Banner, the Ellucian Hub is recommended.)
  • If implementation of a patch/update is desired, submit a request through Request IT.  
  • Test the system when the patch/update has been installed in the testing environment.
  • Monitor the system when the patch/update has been moved to a production environment. Report any irregularities to [[support]].

This guideline applies to our systems that are hosted on campus.  For systems hosted off-site or located in the Cloud, updates are managed by the vendor.

  • Advance
  • Banner
  • CS Gold
  • DegreeWorks
  • EMS
