List of Accounts

A unique W&M Username is assigned to faculty, staff and students at the university. This user name is needed for all Information Technology services and for business and administrative systems at William & Mary.

Accounts (access to IT services)

With very few exceptions, W&M Usernames for new faculty, staff and students are created automatically. A summary of automatic and by request services is provided below.

For more information, see the W&M Account Activation page.

In an instance where the W&M Username will not be created automatically, please use Request IT to request an affiliate account. A W&M Username will not be created automatically for:

  • volunteers
  • visiting professors who are not teaching
  • affiliated individuals who are not students, not employees and not teaching

For assistance with accounts, please contact the Technology Support Center at 757-221-4357 (HELP) or [[support]].

Your W&M account's password can be updated an any point, but must be updated annually.  You will be sent reminder emails as the date approaches. Use the link on it IT Homepage to access the Change Password system.

Email (100GB quota for faculty, staff and students)

Note: Sstudent email and calendars services have migrated from Gmail to Microsoft Office 365 Email. To learn more about this project and the reasoning behind it, please visit the Gmail & Calendar Transition to Office 365 announcement page.

The default W&M email system is Office 365 and hosted by Microsoft. The address for faculty, students, and staff is W&M Username@wm.edu.

Faculty and staff may request an alias for this default email address. For instance, if your default email address is wmgriffin@wm.edu, you may request an alias such as wm.griffin@wm.edu or griffin@wm.edu. If the alias you request is available, your W&M Username (wmgriffin) would not change; however, email sent to wm.griffin@wm.edu or griffin@wm.edu would be directed to your mailbox. To request an alias for your email address, contact [[support]].

We are not able to offer alias addresses for student email accounts.

Web-based access to your email is available on myW&M by clicking on the Outlook icon.

Request process: Automatically provided to faculty, staff, and students.

  • Contact the Technology Support Center to complete the setup.
