Training and Development

On January 10, 2009 the new University Human Resources System went into effect.  The central goal of the new University system is to continue to strengthen the partnership between the College and all of its employees.  It was designed to recognize and reward the contributions of all of our employees in ensuring William and Mary’s continued excellence.

In developing the new University system critical input from employees across the campus was gathered related to what works and doesn’t work for the areas of Classification and Compensation, Employee Relations, Training and Development and Benefits and Workplace Issues.  Through these conversations and surveys, the need for a training and professional development program to support employee success and advancement was consistently identified throughout the process.

As a result of this input from employees, the College is pleased to announce the College Training and Development Program.  This program will provide opportunities for employees to gain new knowledge and skills for their current job and to develop or enhance skills while preparing for future opportunities.

The first step was to form the Training and Development Advisory Committee.  The representative committee’s initial charge is to review the goals, objectives and phases of implementation originally proposed to the Board of Visitors.  You will have opportunities for input into the training program priorities through a needs assessment survey and by talking with your committee representatives.
